How do Fixed Bed packages work?Answer: Fixed Beds packages are the best way to travel if you are short on time, know what itinerary you want to do, and want all your accommodation and transport pre-booked. You just follow your set-timeframe, stay in pre-booked accommodation and let us do the rest. The Magic itinerary is designed so you make the most of travelling around New Zealand on short time frames.

Q. How far in advance do I need to book a Fixed Beds package?Answer: Fixed Bed packages require at least 24 hours notice to book and confirm.

Q. Can I change the booking details of my Fixed Beds Pass?Answer: Yes. Once booked and confirmed, an amendment fee will apply for any further changes.

Q. Is accommodation guaranteed with my Fixed Beds Pass?Answer: Fixed Bed accommodation is pre-booked so therefore guaranteed.

Q. How do I contact the Magic office? |
Q. How much money will I need to budget?Answer: With Magic you can spend as much or as little as you like. Accommodation varies from $20 to $50 per person per night depending on the accommodation level you choose. As for activities, there is a heap to do en-route, including loads of stuff for free.
As for food, you can self cater in the hostels to save money but often your driver will organise dinners.

Q. What are the overnight stops?Answer: The compulsory overnight stops are indicated by the grey dots shown on the maps. These indicate the resting place of the coach (and driver) each night so you must stay at least one night in each of these stops (at least two nights in Queenstown). You can also stay
anywhere else you want on the route.

Q. Do I need to book my own accommodation?Answer: You can book your own accommodation on your My Magic online journey planner. It is recommended to pre-book your own accommodation as it is subject to availability. In times of high demand such as Christmas and Easter it is advisable to book as far in advance as possible, at less busy periods then booking 1 or 2 days in advance using MyMagic will be fine.

Q. If I'm not staying at a Magic hostel will I be picked up?Answer: Magic buses pick-up and drop-off at selected hostels and sometimes other central locations such as iSites. We have a pick up list on our website for you to select your closest pick up point. This can be found on our timetable page just click the link. If you are not staying at a Magic pick up, you will need to make your way to the closest
stop.

Q. How do Flexi Beds Packages work?Answer: Flexi Bed transport passes operate as per a Magic Transport Pass which allows you to hop on and off the Magic Bus, but you have the luxury of knowing your accommodation is already paid for. When you purchase your package you choose how many nights accommodation (7, 10, 14, 21, 28 nights) you require. We book your first nights accommodation and you need to book your own pre-paid accommodation as you travel. We recommend you book future nights at the YHA reception as you travel. Please be aware this package includes pre-paid YHA Hostel vouchers. These may only be redeemed at YHA Hostels within the New Zealand network.

Q. If I book my Flexi Beds package online how do I get my tickets?Answer: If you have booked a Flexi Beds package through our website a ticket will appear on the screen for you to print. You will then receive an email from our Reservations Team confirming we are processing your booking. Once we have received confirmation for your arrival night, the Reservations Team will send you the final confirmation. This includes information on what to do on arrival at the airport. We will arrange for your documentation to be ready at the reception of the hostel we book you into for your first night. This document pack will include your pre paid YHA vouchers and YHA membership pack.

Q. What if I want a twin/double room with my Flexi Beds Pass?Answer: Twin/Double rooms are available to book when you book your pass. Please advise in the comments section when making your booking. If you decide to upgrade to a twin or double while you are on the road, you can do this at an additional cost (payable to YHA directly when you check in). If you require specific room types, we suggest you book well in advance as they are subject to availability.

Q. Where can I use my Flexi Beds accommodation vouchers?Answer: Your accommodation vouchers can be used at any YHA in New Zealand.

Q. How do I book my Flexi Beds accommodation with the vouchers provided?Answer: We book your first nights’ accommodation and then you must book the rest of your accommodation directly with any YHA Hostel. We advise you to book (with your accommodation vouchers) in advance, especially during peak season and public holidays.

Q. What is the maximum I can stay in each YHA hostel with my Flexi Beds Vouchers?Answer: There is no maximum stay; you are welcome to use your vouchers for as long as you wish at any YHA Hostel.

Q. What time do the trains arrive into Christchurch? How do we get to our accommodation?Answer: The Tranzalpine train departs Greymouth at 1.45pm, arriving into Christchurch at 6.05pm. The Coastal Pacific train departs Picton at 1.00pm, arriving into Christchurch at 6.21pm. There are taxis, shuttles and public buses into the city.
