Auckland is New Zealand’s biggest city – in fact, more people live here than in the entire South Island! The city is surrounded by water, making it possible to walk from one coast to the other within a day (if you are so inclined). Auckland is also the largest Polynesian city, and the blend of cultures living in the city provides the city with a rich diversity and unique atmosphere.

Within the city area there are 44 volcanoes, giving the city its distinctive geography and offering a number of points to view the city from, such as Rangitoto Island in the Waitemata Harbour. There are many ways to choose from when deciding how to view the city, such as the Explorer Bus, which can take you to many of the unique attractions in the city, such as Kelly Tarlton’s aquarium, Auckland Zoo, and the stunning Auckland War Memorial Museum. If you wish to view the city from the water, you can take a harbour cruise with Fullers Cruises or try sailing a former America’s Cup boat with NZL40.

Another unique way to see the city is by walking over the Harbour Bridge – or get an adrenaline rush by trying the AJ Hackett bungy which uses a unique ‘jump pod’ built underneath the bridge.

If you have more time, visit the outer regions of Auckland, such as the amazing west coast with Bush and Beach, which will take you to the beautiful black sand beaches, or travel to Waiheke and visit some of the lush vineyards or olive groves on the island.
