Taupo
A pretty town on the shores of a lake larger than Singapore, and close to the North Island’s largest ski area, Taupo has a huge amount on offer to its visitors at any time of year.
For starters – the lake for which the town is named provides many water activities – fishing, kayaking, parasailing, jet boating and swimming (during the summer months). In addition, the surrounding region offers horse trekking, 4 x 4 motorbiking, or mountain boarding for the more adventurous. Speaking of thrill seeking, if bungy jumping or sky diving is on your list of things to do in New Zealand, Taupo is definitely a place to do these things.
For some more relaxing pursuits, take a tour around Prawn Park, or soak in the thermally heated hot pools.
Taupo has a great selection of dining establishments, serving some of the local produce. The nightlife is also great fun – there are many pubs in which to have a few quiet drinks, and a chance to dance the night away is not hard to find either!
