Queenstown
Queenstown is known as the ‘adventure capital of the world’, which is a fitting description for the range of activities that are on offer to visitors. The range of high risk activities in Queenstown include sky diving, bungy jumping, paragliding, hang gliding, white water rafting, river surfing, jet boating, and many more. The drivers can give you plenty of information about all the different things to do in Queenstown, as well as offering our great discounts.
However, there are also a large variety of quieter activities to do. For a great view of the town and lake, take the short journey up the gondola. Queenstown and the surrounding region has a number of wineries to visit, some of which have tastings and restaurants available on-site. For a quiet trip across Lake Wakatipu, try the Earnslaw, a historic steamship that makes regular journeys. Another highlight of the region is the 4 golf courses, which feature amazing scenery as well as challenging links!
If you need to take a break from spending money, there are quite a few walks of varying length/difficulty to do, as well as gardens, historic buildings, the Lakes District Museum, or for something different, try Frisbee Golf in the Queenstown Gardens – for more information on any of these, see the information centres in downtown Queenstown. A few of the cheaper options also include kayaking on the lake, mountain bike hire, or a visit to the historic nearby town of Arrowtown, which offers fascinating insight into the chequered history of the gold mining which populated the area in the 1800s.
At night, Queenstown has plenty to offer. Follow in former US President Bill Clinton’s footsteps and try the seafood on offer at the Boardwalk on Steamer Wharf, or try some diverse flavours at Frasers, The Bunker or Minami Jujuisei. Great pizza is available at The Cow or Winnie Bagoe’s. For the best coffee in town, try Joe’s Garage, and no late night snack hits the spot like a Ferg Burger in Cow Lane.
Queenstown has plenty of bars available for all different kinds of fun. For a chance to shake it on the dance floor, try the World, Winnie’s, Chico’s or the Loaded Hog. For a quieter night, wander along the bars downtown and you are sure to find something that suits you – jazz, cocktails, Irish bars and many more are all located in the town centre.
